After storytime one night I found myself inside the pages of an old favorite:

The Maggie B by Irene Haas.

A little girl wishes on a star for a ship named after her. To sail for a day, alone and free, with someone nice for company. She wakes up in the cabin of her own little ship, working hard, sailing well, joyful.

I thought I understood the wish.

As it turns out, I too dreamed of freedom, creativity, and companionship, exactly the way Margaret did.

But my story takes a turn with a different kind of sailor.
